Who we are
After a trip to Costa Rica on a volunteer stay helping sea turtles, I ended my trip at a coffee plantation. Being on an island with no modern amenities for the better part of the month, I quickly learned how to drink coffee as it was the only alternative thing to drink. To my surprise it wasn’t the bitter coffee I had seen my dad and grandparents drink “black” all the years growing up. It was smooth and tasted amazing. This inspired me to tour the coffee plantation to learn more and found out I was at one of the largest exporters of coffee beans in the country.
This inspired me to learn what I could about the beans. I joined coffee of the month clubs and explored origins. I shopped different roast levels and blends to find my “daily drink”.
Years later, my daughter wanted a pet as most children do. We began our research. We eliminated pets that didn’t quite fit the bill and fell upon bunnies. As most prepared parents know, children have good intentions for their responsibilities to their new pets, but it’s ultimately our job to ensure they’re cared for. So I did my research. Enough of it that I decided I wanted a bunny myself! We discovered an amazing rescue that provided so much support and education. We quickly became an entire family in love with bunnies and the rescue mission. Within a few weeks we were fostering as well. We learned that domesticated rabbits are the third most abundant pets in shelters and rescues across the country behind dogs and cats. The statistics were staggering. Following our local rescue was even more overwhelming watching the amount of pet bunnies dumped outside daily to survive. I wanted to help. My family wanted to help. We adopted. We fostered. But we wanted to create a mission that was ongoing support to such crisis.
That’s where I decided to combine two things I’m truly passionate about. I went to a local roaster and watched the entire process from green beans to sealed packages. Our mission is to sell enough bags of coffee to help offset the overwhelming dumped population and vet needs locally and then hopefully beyond. One bag and one bunny at a time!
